This is a hybrid position with office working 2 days a week from our Head Office in OX7 6XU.
This role is number 2 in the finance org and requires an experienced leader who can proactively manage appropriate controls and governance, whilst ensuring that finance is a trusted business partner for all key stakeholders in the business. It requires someone who is willing to roll their sleeves up, as well as someone who will help offer insights to improve business performance and processes.
Requirements for Group Financial Controller
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience in a finance leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing group companies and consolidation, ideally within a growth or scale-up environment and with movement of goods/stock.
- Base knowledge of multi-country VAT and/or US Sales Tax.
- Strong experience in leading and managing year-end audit processes.
- Demonstrable leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and inspiring high-performing teams.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong communication skills, capable of interpreting financial data and processes for non-financial stakeholders.
- Highly proficient in IT, with experience in optimising financial systems, processes, and controls.
- Critical thinking and commercial acumen to apply insights for improving team and business performance.
- A proactive, “roll up your sleeves” attitude, aligning with the company’s values and collaborative approach.
Responsibilities as Group Financial Controller
- Lead and develop the finance function, ensuring it supports the company’s strategic objectives and growth plans.
- Oversee all aspects of financial control, including month-end close, preparation and review of management accounts, taxation, group consolidation, and cash management.
- Collaborate closely with the Extended Leadership Team to ensure efficient operations and effective decision-making across the business.
- Improve and streamline finance and business processes, leveraging systems to drive efficiency and scalability.
- Manage the company’s financial reporting processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and insightful reports that support commercial decision-making.
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and manage the year-end audit process, implementing audit recommendations where appropriate.
- Develop, document, and maintain robust financial controls that are effective and reliable for external audit purposes.
- Oversee the company’s tax affairs and manage relationships with external tax advisers.
- Promote a strong customer service ethos within the finance team, ensuring alignment with company values and high professional standards.
- Support the business in achieving its strategic goals by providing financial insights and recommendations.
Salary
Salary range: £95,000 - £105,000
