Please note, to apply for this position you must be based in UK and have the legal right to work in UK. This role is hybrid and requires approx 1 day per week in either our Shipton under Wychwood office (Oxfordshire) or our Cheltenham office (Gloucestershire) and ad hoc business meetings.
The General Counsel will act as the sole principal legal adviser to the Board, C-Suite, and operational management at VoCoVo, providing strategic legal guidance across multiple jurisdictions, including the UK, Europe, the US, and Asia. This role is essential in managing legal risk and ensuring compliance during a period of significant growth for VoCoVo, whilst also being instrumental in negotiating major commercial agreements with global retail and hospitality leaders. The General Counsel will oversee VoCoVo’s intellectual property strategy, support internal functions such as IT and HR, and establish a comprehensive legal risk management framework. The role demands a proactive, collaborative approach, focused on delivering pragmatic legal solutions that align with VoCoVo’s business objectives.
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK, registered with the SRA or the Bar Association.
- Proven experience in providing legal advice on corporate and commercial matters across multiple jurisdictions (UK, Europe, US, and Asia).
- Expertise in negotiating and executing commercial agreements with leading global companies.
- Strong understanding of legal risk management and compliance within a high-growth environment.
- Experience in supporting IP strategies, including the protection and exploitation of critical technologies.
- Ability to manage and resolve customer claims and disputes.
- Capable of providing legal support to other internal functions, such as IT and HR.
- Experience in establishing a legal services organisation and implementing compliance models.
- Knowledge of company secretarial duties and commercial risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Pragmatic, decisive, and able to work at pace with a high degree of accuracy.
- Collaborative, with a “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to the Board, C-Suite, and operational management on corporate and commercial matters.
- Manage legal risks and ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Negotiate and execute key commercial agreements with global retail and hospitality companies.
- Support supply chain management by drafting effective contract documentation that apportions risk appropriately.
- Oversee the company’s IP strategy, ensuring the protection and exploitation of business-critical technologies.
- Manage legal disputes and customer claims through to resolution.
- Establish a legal risk management and compliance model, including policies, procedures, and training programmes.
- Manage external legal resources to ensure cost-effective procurement of legal services.
- Provide company secretarial services.
- Develop and implement legal risk mitigation strategies for key business risks.
- Ensure that legal advice is timely, relevant, and effectively provided across all levels of the business.
Salary
Salary range: £95,000 - £115,000
