Role Overview
As Technical Lead, Platform, you will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining our internal platform tooling, enabling engineers to focus on delivering high-quality software without friction.
You will combine your expertise in systems and software engineering with a product mindset to ensure our platform is intuitive, scalable and cost-efficient. This role is driven by the needs of architecture and the wider engineering organisation rather than being aligned with a specific stream.
Our goal is to manage overall system complexity to deliver leverage to the business. We achieve this by enabling stream-aligned teams to work with substantial autonomy while ensuring a cohesive experience across different user journeys and products at VoCoVo.
Please note, this role is largely remote but would require visits to our Oxfordshire or Cheltenham offices approximately once a month for team meet-ups/key meetings.
What we're looking for
Strong experience in Lead/Senior level Software Engineering positions, with a background in backend, cloud or infrastructure engineering.
Proven experience in the leadership, mentoring, inspiration and management of highly driven technical teams.
Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, cloud platforms (Azure preferred), CI/CD, infrastructure as code and containerisation.
A polyglot engineering approach - you'll enjoy and be comfortable working with different programming languages, experience with Typescript and Golang is highly desirable.
A product-minded approach to engineering challenges, with the ability to balance usability, scalability and long-term cost efficiency.
Hands on experience with backend systems, cloud-native architectures and implementing CI/CD pipelines.
A clear focus on building self-service platform capabilities that treat internal engineering teams as customers.
Strong problem solving skills and the desire to work autonomously in a fast-moving environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge gaps between teams and stakeholders (technical and non-technical).
What you'll do
Architect, implement and maintain our internal tooling, leveraging technologies such as Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform and Docker.
Provide strong technical leadership, you'll work closely with the architectural team to translate wider business requirements into clear technical direction.
Manage, mentor and support engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration and technical excellence.
Enable engineering teams by continuously assessing and improving the platform's usability, scalability and cost-effectiveness - keeping the needs of internal teams at the forefront.
Develop and maintain secure, reliable and resilient infrastructure that meets operational and security standards.
Partner with engineering teams to understand their workflows and deliver platform solutions that enable rapid development and deployment.
Enhance automation and evolve CI/CD pipelines to reduce friction and improve developer productivity.
Apply diverse programming expertise to solve backend, cloud and infrastructure challenges. Leveraging technologies such as Typescript and Golang.
Implement observability, monitoring and optimisation practices to proactively identify issues and continuously improve system performance.
Salary
Salary range: £80,000 - £85,000
