Role Overview
As Senior UX Designer, you'll join our growing Product and Design team, reporting directly to our UX Lead. You'll focus upon researching user needs and designing intuitive, engaging and compelling user experiences across our hardware and SaaS products. You'll be as comfortable in a retail space running a shadowing session as you are in Figma crafting a user flow, bringing both a research mind and creativity to your work.
You'll play a critical role in translating user research, customer insights and product requirements into practical, user-centered designs. By combining creativity with a strong understanding of design principles, usability and accessibility, you excel at delivering products that delight customers whilst supporting strategic goals.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a scaling technology business, working closely with Product, Engineering and Marketing teams to ensure design excellence across all touch-points.
Please note, to apply for this position you must be based in the UK and have the legal right to work in the UK. This is a hybrid role with travel approx twice per week for key meetings at our Oxfordshire office or customer visits (for which the location can vary depending upon customer needs).
What we're looking for
Strong experience designing across both hardware and software, you deeply understand both physical and digital ecosystems.
Proven UX research skills, including interviews, observation, synthesis and the confidence to run studies independently.
An excellent understanding of how people move through and experience physical environments, you are able to map journeys, identify friction points and design with spatial context in mind.
A strong communicator, you can distil findings into clear, compelling stories for product, engineering and commercial audiences.
Figma excellence - You are an expert at prototyping, component based design and are passionate about clear documentation.
You have an excellent balance of creativity and structure, you can generate brilliant ideas but also enjoy giving them shape and direction.
A strong understanding of User-Centered Design (UCD) principles, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, interaction design and accessibility standards.
You have proven experience creating responsive dashboard designs.
A high level of proficiency with design and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite or similar).
An excellent ability to interpret research and data, informing design decisions.
The ability to interpret and understand complex systems, creating intuitive and simple design solutions.
A focus upon collaboration, you love to partner cross functionally and have previously worked closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing and other aligned functions.
"Nice to have" skills
Previous exposure to human factors or ergonomics in hardware design.
Experience operating within retail environments, you have the ability to translate on-the-ground observation into design decisions.
An understanding of service design, you can see beyond individual touch-points to map end-to-end experiences across people, processes and systems.
An interest in voice UI and conversational interaction design, you are curious about how people interact with voice-first and hands-free systems in high-pressure, ambient environments.
What you'll do
Bring product requirements and research insights to life through wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs.
Collaborate with Product, Engineering and Marketing to ensure designs are feasible, aligned and deliverable.
Champion user research and turn findings into design decisions that actually move the needle.
Apply accessibility and usability standards to ensure designs are inclusive and user-friendly.
Support the creation, elevation and maintenance of a design system for consistency across products and touch-points.
Craft clear, compelling design documentation that brings your ideas, flows and interactions to life for the whole team.
Lead design reviews, workshops and collaborative sessions that spark great thinking with product, engineering and client stakeholders alike.
Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and users, turning it into stronger, sharper designs through iteration.
Stay curious about industry trends, tools and best practices, sharing what you discover with the team.
Partner with our UX Lead to help shape the UX vision and contribute to a user-centric culture across VoCoVo.
